Google Docs in Plain English by Common Craft

 To Get Started:

1.  Sign up for a Google Account   http://documents.google.com

2.  Check your email for a Google Verification Email

3.  Click on the link inside the email to finish the sign up process.

4.  The first time you need to go to Google Docs:  Go to www.google.com

5.  Click on Sign In - Use the email and password you used to create the account.

6.  Once logged in, click on My Account -->  try something new--> More--> Select Documents and spreadsheet

** After the first time you log in go straight to My Account - Docs and Spreadsheets will appear under My Services

 

 

To Upload Current Documents from Your Computer:

1.  Click Upload

2.  Locate the file by selecting Browse.  

3.  Click Open to add the file

4.  Provide a new name for the document if necessary

5.  Click Upload File

 

 

To Share a Document:

1.  Select or open the file you wish to share.

2. Click either the Share Tab (from within the document) or the Share Icon (in the Docs Home view)

3.  Select the sharing option:

    As collaborators - can edit document

    As viewers - can only view the document

    To fill out a form- can only use to complete a form

4.  Add the email addresses of all

5.  Check any other options below box

6.  Click "Invite Others"

7.  Those receiving email need to click on the link to get started (If they haven't created a Google Account, they will need to do so.)

 

 

Exporting back to Office:

 

1.  With the document open, click on File.

2.  Select your export option (exports to comparable MS Office product, PDF, Open Office, Text, HTML, etc.)

3.  Save your file.
